Stuart Byrne--Woodwind Whirlwind

It's almost hard to know where to begin with Stuart's profile, and it's even harder to limit it to a single web page...but we'll try!

Stuart plays more woodwind instruments than most mere mortals can even name, from clarinets and  saxophones to flute and bassoon.    And he plays them in styles as diverse as jazz, classical and pop/rock.

Where he found the time to master so many instruments is a complete mystery given his phenominally busy performance schedule.    Stuart is a regular fixture in the orchestra pit of most of Melbourne's major musical theatre productions including blockbusters The Producers, The Boy From Oz and Les Miserables.   He's played at the Logies, pumped out a few tunes for Channel 7's It Takes Two, does the odd gig with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and
has recorded with many well known artists, including Marcia Hines, Daryl Somers and David Campbell.   He has also toured with superstars and legends of the music industry, Ray Charles and Gene Pitney.

As impressive as his own musical achievements are (and we've only listed a few of them here), Stuart is also a passionate music educator.   He teaches at Camberwell High School and is a core member of the woodwind trio Doubling Up, which works with Musica Viva in schools throughout Victoria.

We'll get a photo of him up on our website just as soon as we can get him to stand still long enough!
